Getting started

What is Hourloom for?

Hourloom keeps a ledger of your hours and your estimated pay when you bill several kinds of hourly work at different rates, such as tutoring, contracting or shift work. One tap switches the running clock between work types, you can fill in a day by half hours, repeating days are saved as patterns, and the month adds up to an estimate of your gross pay.

How do I start and switch the clock?

On Today, tap a work type to start the clock. Tapping another type ends the first at the same moment and starts the second, with no gap. Tap Stop to clock out. You can do the same from the widget, the Lock Screen, Control Center, Siri or an Apple Watch. Every change has an Undo.

If you switch and then switch again within a minute, the first of the two is dropped instead of saved as a tiny session.

I forgot to clock in. How do I log the time?

Open Today and switch the day view to Grid. Tap half hours, or press and drag across them, then choose the work type. Turn on Swipe to select to select by swiping straight away. You can also tap Add time for exact start and end times, or Type it and write something like "Tutoring 9 to 12, then Admin till 5" (the keyboard's microphone works for speaking). Hourloom shows what it understood and only adds it when you tap Add.

What are patterns?

A pattern is a saved day, such as Weekday A: Tutoring 9 to 12 and Admin 1 to 5. Create them in Setup, then apply one to a day from the Day tab or to several days at once from Month (tap Select days).

What is "suggested time"?

For a finished day with nothing logged, Hourloom can suggest what you probably did, based on the same weekday in recent weeks and your patterns. It is a suggestion drawn from your own history on your device, shown with a dashed outline and a question mark, and it never counts toward your totals or pay until you tap Add it. Adding it only adds time: Confirm day is a separate tap that says the day is right. If it isn't right, tap Not right and it stops suggesting for that day. If suggestions are often wrong, Hourloom stops offering them in the evening reminder.

How do I turn suggestions off?

Setup › Suggestions › Suggest time I may have forgotten. When it is off, no suggested time is shown anywhere (cards, the grid, Month, Pay, reminders or Siri). Your logged time is not affected.

Pay and overtime

How is my pay worked out?

From the sessions you logged, each work type's hourly rate on that day, and the pay rules you set in Setup › Pay rules (a minimum paid time, rounding, and when overtime starts). Pay is calculated fresh from those every time and shown as gross, estimated.

Is this payroll, tax or legal advice?

No. Hourloom estimates gross pay from the rules you enter. Overtime rules differ by place and employer, so Hourloom never assumes them: you set them. Check your actual pay with your employer, client or a professional.

I changed a rate. Did my old months change?

No. Rates and rules are dated: a change applies from the date you choose onward and never rewrites earlier months. If you export a month or mark it as paid, Hourloom remembers that figure, and if something later moves it, Pay says "Recomputed differs by" and by how much, so a number you acted on never changes silently.

How do I export a month?

On Pay, tap the share button and choose Excel (.xlsx) or CSV (sessions). Exporting works even after the free trial has ended.

Hourloom Unlock

How does the free trial work?

You choose when it starts. A new install is read-only so you can look around ("Try with a sample week" shows a populated app), and the 30 days begin when you tap Start free trial. For those 30 days everything is on. After that, a single one-time purchase unlocks it for good. There is no subscription. If you don't buy it, the app is read-only again: you can still look at everything, export it and back it up, and nothing is deleted, but the clock, new sessions and edits stop.

I bought it but it isn't unlocked.

Go to Setup and tap Restore Purchase while signed in to the Apple Account you purchased with. The same purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Sync, backups & your data

How do I sync between my devices?

Sign in to the same Apple Account with iCloud on each device. Sync uses your private iCloud (CloudKit) and is on by default. You can turn it off in Setup (Sync with iCloud); the change applies after you close Hourloom from the app switcher and open it again.

How do I back up or move my data?

In Setup, choose Back up everything (JSON) and save the file somewhere safe. To bring it back, choose Restore a backup…. A restore adds what's missing and keeps whichever copy is newer; it never removes your newer changes.

Can I bring my data from the web prototype?

Yes. Restore a backup… also reads the backup file from the earlier Shift Ledger web prototype.

How do I delete my data?

In Setup, under Your data, choose Delete all data…. It asks three times (what will be deleted, an acknowledgement, then typing DELETE) and offers a backup first. It deletes every work type, rate, pattern, rule, session and the running clock for good, and with iCloud sync on it deletes them from your other devices too. Your free month and any purchase are not affected. You can also delete single sessions and work types (a work type that has sessions is archived, not deleted), or use Clear examples for sample time. To remove everything stored in iCloud, go to the iPhone Settings app › your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage › Hourloom. See our privacy policy.

Widgets and Watch

How do I add the widget, Live Activity or Control Center control?

Add the Hourloom widget from the Home Screen or Lock Screen widget gallery. While the clock runs, the Lock Screen shows a Live Activity with Switch and Stop buttons; you can turn that off in Setup. Add the Hourloom controls from Control Center's edit mode. They only start, switch or stop your own clock.

How does the Apple Watch app work?

The Apple Watch app shows what's running with a live timer and lets you switch or stop; it works through your iPhone, which stays the one place the data is saved, so open Hourloom on the iPhone if the watch says it isn't connected.

I'm not getting reminders.
  1. In the iPhone Settings app › Notifications › Hourloom, make sure Allow Notifications is on.
  2. In Hourloom, Setup › Reminders must be on, with the evening time you want.
  3. Check that a Focus mode isn't silencing Hourloom, then open the app once.
Can I lock Hourloom with Face ID?

Yes, using iOS itself. On iOS 18 or later, touch and hold the Hourloom icon on your Home Screen and choose Require Face ID. Hourloom has no lock of its own, so there is nothing extra to set up and it can't lock you out of your data.
